No he wasn't there because he was going to be deported. He was there because the government asked to summarily deport him, and the judge said no as they didn't have a good enough case. The judge scheduled a further hearing.

He was there because he was going to be deported. He attended the court so that he could be made aware of his rights and responsibilities regarding the deportation order.
It is his opportunity to contest the order.
Regardless of what the judge addressing this hearing concluded, a different judge had issued an arrest warrant for the man. Why? We do not know, but there was a valid warrant for his arrest.
The ice officials were exercising the warrant.
The lawyer assigned to the man, and the media know all of this but are withholding the information because it doesn't fit the narrative.

But the government doesn't accept that, so arrested him afterwards for reasons unknown.

It is very difficult to work out exactly what is going on, especially in a foreign system. The lawyer says the Trump people are trying every trick to stop this man and many others having a proper hearing. It looks like they are sending these people notices to attend court to get them to attend a normal immigration hearing. Then they are asking the judge to dismiss that hearing so that they can arrest them and summarily deport them. In this case, it looks like the judge refused, so instead they used another route where they simply used their power to declare that the court hearing had been arranged by mistake.
