Hi all,
I am going to be starting work soon which requires that the gas and water services are turned off to the house.

I had to have the water company in to replace the stopcock who commented to the wife that there was a gas pipe running near by. The problem I have is that the gas comes into the side of the house and the water comes in at the front of the house.

This begs the question where do the pipes run? I thought I knew but I am not so sure now.... it is a mid terrace c1903 so could be anywhere...

Who would hold this information? Is any one specific company responsible to detailing service pipe locations?

Is my only option to get a survey company in? What price should I expect for this if I do?

Thanks

What sort of work requires that the water and gas be turned off?
How can the gas come in the side of the house when its a mid terraced

Ah ha...good question (sorry should have clarified this!!) There is a passage way between myself and next door and, well I thought anyway, that the gas pipe went down the passage way as half way down on my side a pipe sticks up and goes into my wall under the stairs where it goes into the meter. How it gets to the main street I have no idea.

Basically I am digging up the extension and the kitchen both of which have solid contrete floors with both gas and water pipes running through them. I'd rather not have any suprises and know what I am dealing with!!
