Sewage gases coming from soilpipe behind WC

Hi, this WC is inserted into what appears to be an asbestos drain pipe. It goes into a wall, not under the WC. There are no actual leaks, other than some sewer gases. In this case, do you think it would be acceptable to cover the soilpipe with 3 tiles and seal with silicone? There is an ideal space behind the WC where tiles could be used to cover the pipe, so sealing between wall, floor and WC. I think this would stop any gases escaping, but would there be any problems with the sewage gas building up, and being trapped by the 3 tiles? Thank you.

Well, it has been like this for around 5 years and no leaks, but I suppose if there was ever a blockage further down the drain, the backflow would probably escape. I know the proper solution is to refit the wc. Thank you.
