shadows of nails in ceiling plasterboard

Hi there,
I've noticed something strange in a house I rent. the bedroom has a slanted roof on one side where the roof comes up. on this ceiling (which I guess is almost attached to the roof tiles) you can see shadows of almost every nail head. only one or two look like they are being pushed out. The house was built in 1998 and no sign of these shadows appear anywhere else.

Is this something i should be worried about or can I simply repaint (I don't think it's been repainted since 2006)

Is the ceiling plastered or joint taped? I am surprised that it was nailed, been using screws for years now.
It really is an issue to take up with your landlord, if you are concerned about it!
