Hi I have two areas of grass seed sowed. One area the grass is growing and about a week old. The other I only planted yesterday. I watered this morning but both areas are very dry already. The area where grass has started growing is in shade now and the other is in direct sunlight. Shall I water or wait until sundown?

i would keep it damp 24/7, too much water for me would be when the seeds start to float

OK I hear diffrent reports. I have heard only water before sun is shining on the area so first thing I morning and when sun is down in evening. and I also heard keep it moist all the time. So just wanted to check

What do I do right now tho with sunlight shinning onto it? Do I wait until the sun goes down?

I would water it now, then again later tonight, keep it damp.

Is there a reason why you think you should not water on a sunny day? sunshine and showers is a normal weather pattern, nature copes well with it, I do appreciate some people think a water droplet can act like a magnifying glass and cause the suns rays to damage things? may be they are right but I seriously doubt it. I'm always watering stuff when the sun is shining, only see it doing good

I was told by two diffrent people always water first thing in morning and in evening when sun had went down. Never in direct sunlight. But I was not sure if its right so that's why I am asking here

yes, lots of people say that, I think it's nonsense, but I could be wrong.

Watering at night is more beneficial to the plant and your wallet if on a meter as less of it evaporates before it has a chance to penetrate down to the roots where it needed

When to Water
You must avoid having wet grass at night as this promotes disease. Therefore, water before the heat of the day so that the lawn has time to dry before nightfall. You can put the sprinkler on anytime from 4am to early afternoon on most days even sunny ones. If the temperature gets above 24°C/75°F turn the water off.

If you have disease in the lawn watering can make it worse. Red Thread and Fusarium will get worse in wetter conditions whilst watering will help the grass fight off Rust diseases. See Pests & Diseases for more detail.

Yes, thats what I'm doing to mine - overnight it has a chance to get to the little roots.(y)

I'm not expecting anything. I didn't give the advice, I merely copied and pasted it from a website who specialise in lawns because their advice should be the best.

presumably the ° (Degree) symbol must have turned itself into a zero (or may be that has only happened on my machine?) - I do know you didn't mean 240 degrees Centigrade. watering the grass would be the least of our worries at that temperture
