I currently have an old rechargeable beard trimmer with an almost dead battery so I have to run an extension cord into the bathroom to plug in the 3 pin plug that charges it. Luckily it allows you to use the trimmer while charging/plugged in. I don't trim my beard very often, once every 6 weeks maybe.

I am renovating my bathroom so thought a good idea would be to get a new UK 2 pin shaving socket, and then find a corded non rechargeable beard trimmer that could plug into it. As I trim so rarely there seemed little point in keeping a battery trimmer charged but unused for weeks on end, and from my experience the batteries in these things don't last long, so you end up using a cord anyway. And I want to keep my trimmer in the bathroom, not keep having to move it to another room to charge it.

But it seems like this kind of beard trimmer just does not exist anymore! Everything is rechargeable. Virtually no one does corded trimmers and those that do have a standard 3 pin plug on the end (often a wall wart power supply, so not easy to replace with something different). And anything with a 2 pin plug you see online are not actually UK standard 2 pin shaving plugs, but European 2 pin plugs.

So I am thinking maybe a 2 pin shaver socket is a bad idea since I can't find anything to plug into it - unless anyone has any ideas?

I've seen you can get bathroom rated 2 pin shaver sockets with additional USB and USB-C sockets, so perhaps that would be a better option?

But I would want a shaver that could run off the USB port power for when the battery inevitably dies.

What should I do to future proof the bathroom, but also allow myself to easily trim my beard?

Thanks

I used a battery powered beard trimmer , last six months on two AA batteries. No charger required .Doubt you can future proof anything .Imagine contactless chargers will be here soon for everything .

Buy a new beard trimmer - they are not expensive.

This bit is though: Get one of those mirrored cabinets with heated mirror and shaver socket inside.
That way you can charge either electric toothbrush or your beard shaver from inside the cabinet.

With a new beard shaver you should not need to run it straight off the mains.

This is what I have, although I charge the trimmer in my bedroom so I can see it's LED so I know to unplug it as I'm going to bed.

We have a 3pin socks just outside bathroom door in the hallway.
Sorted.
Although I don't use it but the Mrs does sometimes.

I think it goes against safety concerns these days having power in the bathroom.
Not that anyone I know has had a problem.

My beard trimmer lasts weeks after charging and I maybe use it once every three weeks. It gets charged in the bedroom. And considering they are usually less than £20 these days ( keep an eye on lidl/aldi as they do them, often for about £15) corded is not worth it.
Edit, you might be able to get a new battery for the old trimmer.
