Hi, I need to fit a shaver socket into my main bathroom. can I break into the nearest light fitting cable and fit a junction box and cable to feed this socket?

Yes but:
- the junc box must be accessible (why not run the feed from a lighting rose?)
-you must ensure supplementary bonding is in place to include this circuit
- you must notify your local authority before starting work (electrical work in a bathroom is notifiable).

you need to make sure the cable is a permanent live and neutral.
Or only shave with the light on....
Or just shave half your face if you connect to a permanent live / switched live t&e
