Hello,
I am going to have to have a new boiler and a (small, I think) cylinder installed so that there is sufficient power for a shower in my (one-person) flat. This will reduce a lot of storage space and I wanted to be able to house the boiler in the top, wasted space of a cupboard, so that the base of the boiler was around about chest level. Are cylinders always placed on the floor because of the weight? It would make such a difference if I could use the unused space. The space has one solid wall, one stud wall and one side which is just wood.
I'd be very grateful for any advice about the possibility of making a supporting shelf. Many thanks.

Mine wasn't in my old house, it was on a sturdy wooden platform about 2 feet above floor level.

Obviously, a cylinder filled with water is HEAVY! Water weighs 1KG (2.2lb) per litre, so if you know how big your cylinder will be, you can get an idea of how strong your platform would have to be.

As a rule of thumb, if you can jump up and down on it safely, it will probably be strong enough.

I have a combi already but I am on the fourth floor of a house in an area of low water pressure. Over the years I have been advised by plumber after plumber that the only way I will be able to get a shower to work is by changing the whole system so I am biting the bullet! Thanks for responding.
