A Shelly switch can be used for pretty much anything within it's current ratings.
The picture just shows a mess of exposed and unsuitable wiring hanging out of a hole. That will need to be fixed regardless of what devices are used.

Yes I’m not really sure myself to be honest and I’ve just moved in hence asking if someone more knowledgeable can figure out whats going on here
