Shoot bolts not retracting into window

Hi,

Two of our upstairs windows have packed up (just before winter!).

The bottom shoot bolts on the windows are not retracting up into the windows. I have looked at the gear box and it looks like the name on it is ‘Saracen’. It’s not like a new locking system in that when I open the window I can only see the gear box and two metal bits at the top and bottom where the shoot bolts come out.

First question is will changing the gearbox fix this? If so how will it fix it (I.e. how are the bolts connected to the gearbox) and is it fairly easy?

Second question, how do I find a suitable replacement, given that these windows are probably 10-15 years old?

Saracen espags are made up of a gearbox and top and bottom extension rods.

Maybe they have come separated where they join.

You will need to know model, backset, poss cam height.

I have found the right type https://www.handlesandhinges.co.uk/saracen-deadlock-window-lock-gearbox-for-upvc-windows/ it’s 22mm backset and 9.5 mm latch size.

Would you advise getting new gearboxes first or should I order new shoot bolts as well? Just wasn’t sure if the existing shoot bolts would be usable (I.e. is it usually the gearbox that is faulty?).
