if the cops get there pay back dated, will there be a rush on goverment
dept to pay all civil servants back pay and will our taxes go up ,wish i could get a raise 8) :(

historically their pay rise has always been backdated back to 1st september and most other civil service depts are treated in the same way The governments just treating them in a shambolic way and if it does it to them it will carry on and do it to all the other services etc.

I'm with Thermo, it's a disgrace to shift the goalposts at this stage.

A deal is a deal as far as I'm concerned, and the government have reneged on one with no apparent discomfort whatsoever.

I heard a spokesman say on the lunchtime news that it's cast in stone and they wont back down, just the sort of shady behaviour I've come to expect from this government - like the Tories before them they've been in power too long and think they are above reproach.

Disgusted - Walsall.

PS  to answer your question - no. The princely sum the government are denying the police is £200 - and they say they're worried about inflation!!!!!!

Grrrrrr knock 10p off the taxes on fuel & booze ya pukers, that'll bring inflation down.

pj. they have created 5million jobs so they say only trouble is no one living in the uk wanted them, u dont always get what u vote for

Is that all they are arguing about  you would think they would pay up to avoid the agro.

They should get the BMA to act for them. GPs got a 50% increase and earn around £150k. Now they are asking for more - and they'll get it.

The police are corrupt right through, incompetent, dishonest and unaccountable.
But why not just increment their pay in line with inflation?

really? i would suggest you prove that statement.

If the pay deal was in line with inflation it wouldnt be a problem. Even during the winter of discontent they didnt manage to get the police to strike. Christ this government is ****e

I don't think many people would turn out and do the sort of work cops do today for the pay they get. Work all hours, put up with abuse from yobs etc. They should get double (those at the pointy end anyway).

I think the ghosts of the miners should have the last say, lets see if they would like to support the police, I have a friend in the force who often tell's how the miners strikes paid for his house.

The mining industry was gone, there was no market for the coal produced - what other choice was there?

Thatcher did the dirty work that enabled New Labour to capitalise. No Thatcher - no New Labour.

Don't hold anything back Chris you tell it how it is

Am i right in saying the police in Scotland have had their pay backdated but not the English. Absolute disgrace especially when she gives herself a 66% pay increase. Can she justify that i wonder

For all the backbiting at Maggie Thatcher, I wonder what the average life expectancy for a welsh male is now, as opposed to when coal mining was at its height...... :?:
