Should I Delete EXE Desktop Icons For Various Downloads?

Recently I have downloaded Windows Live Mail, Internet Explorer 8 and Skype.

Each time I started the process, the first thing I did is save the download installer (exe?) to my desktop, where I then ran/opened the programme.

Do these installer exe icons now have a purpose? Should I send them to desktop recycle bin, or uninstall them?

Why not create a folder and move ('cut' then 'paste') the install programs there? They serve no other purpose other than - installers.
Always handy if you have / feel the need to reinstall...
