Should I use a breather membrane

Hi All,

I would like to clad part of my brick built house with timber cladding for purely aesthetic reasons. The wall construction is insulated brick & block cavity wall and as far as I'm aware is all in good condition with no issues. I was thinking of fixing vertical battens then horizontal cladding directly to the brickwork but wonder if I should use breather membrane first?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Assuming this is external??

No need for a breather membrane - just vertical battens and cladding. Allow air to circulate by leaving a gap at the top and bottom.
