Hi there, new to the forum - was looking up online and came across this place!

I wonder if I should worry about this. Got a ADT engineer to install a new smart security system including security camera at my new build a few days ago. I wasn’t there so I left it with my wife. It was the ADT guy who decided to install the camera there. However, when I had a look around this morning, I noted the surrounding of the render/roughcast came off. I am not sure if the guy chiselled the area before drilling or he just drilled from inside (bedroom) to outside and caused the surround to fall.

If he did chisel it, I wondered if it was really needed or just poor decision… The other one installed at the garage has no such damage to the surrounding of the mount.

Should I 1) leave it? 2) get someone patch the area? 3) put some weatherproof sealant around the mount? Would like to get a better idea before potentially speaking to ADT again… Thanks in advance!

It tapers from inside to outside, so I would suggest he drilled from inside to out. Difficult to avoid when drilling holes through walls. Outside to in, would have been easier long term, plaster is easier to repair than render.

Thanks for your reply. If I just leave it should I worry if the render will crack/damage to wall underneath? I am quite tempted just to leave it or just put a weatherproof sealant if it’s just cosmetic…
