During my coffee break this afternoon I watched Parliament live. A debate on the East Coast Rail Franchise, a subject which involves substantial public money, was in progress .Total count of MPs present = 21. I assume all of the others were collecting their salaries and expenses so why were they not there. Surely there is a case of paying them only when they attend their place of work.

the chamber is only a very very small part off the palace there are hundred off offices so they may be present but not on camera
i think they should have to spend a total off 35 hours a week on constituency and parliamentary business

Possibly doing constituency work.
Or do you believe the press when they try to make out they are sunning themselves on a beach when not in parliament?
