Hi I have to replace my shower. I want to put in the same model except a higher powered one. How can I tell if the power wires already in are ok for the new shower. I think they may have to be a certain width. Is this true and if so how do I measure them and/or change them if neccessary. thanks Geoff

As a very basic general rule, any shower over 8Kw will need 10mm2 cable.

It also depends on the length of the cable run. Your mcb will probably need uprating and also maybe your pull switch.

I would post this question in the electrics forum for an accurate reply ;)

Even better, get an NICEIC qualified electrician to look. You can't much about with shower cables... you may end up with a) a crap shower and/or b) exploding wires in the wall!

and to comply with part P you need to have a registered installer as you are not doing a like for like swap
