hi - apologies if this is wrongly posted. This is my first post and I am in need of some advice. I have just bought a buy-to-let house. The previous owners have left the bathroom 'ready for a shower' ie there is a wire coming out of the wall. I have asked 2 electricians - one tells me he needs to take tiles off to install an isolator switch to protect the board rather than replace the whole board. The other tells me I need to install an RCD unit.
This is all a foreign language to me but I want to do the right thing so the tenants are safe and happy. The quotes vary enormously so I also want to know what I am paying is 'the going rate' so to speak.
Any help gratefully received!

First of all, can't give prices on this forum. The best thing you can do is get quotes from decent electricians. I.E. any that come recommended in your area.
It needs an isolating switch usually a 45A or 50A pull switch dependent on the size of the shower. This will also determine the size of cable. Usually nowadays it's 10mm².
Your electrican should know this.
Although you do not have to have your shower RCD protected it is good advice.

Going purely by the your wording either the person selling you the house has really stitched you up doing half a job, or one or all of the elecectricians are baffling you with gargon and no real explanation, or your powers of observation and retell are cr.a.p.

Keep going with the quotes until you get someone who explains properly what you have, what you need why you need it and how much it will cost. If you can't comprehend it then get it in writing and relay it here.

Someone competent on the ground who won't miss out important information, that you won't be aware we need, can solve this for you.
