Looking for a smarter way to manage your heating this winter? We’ve been testing the new Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 to see how quiet, accurate and easy it is to use around the home. Click here read our review.
Even if your combi is only 20kW you will still get 8.2LPM at 40C from mains at 5C in the debths of winter, and just now, at a mains temp of 19C, 13.7LPM, the corresponding flowrates for your 9.5kW electric are 3.9LPM & 6.5LPM.
Two ways to look at this if its the only shower you have.
Thermostatic are better looking and performing showers .
Yet a good electric shower is your back up hot water if the combi breaks down on a cold damp December day leading up to Christmas.
Option 1 - have a decent thermostatic mixer shower 99.9% of the time and get the boiler repaired on the rare occasion that it breaks.
Option 2 - put up with a substandard failure of an electric shower 100% of the time due to FUD about boilers breaking.

Thanks for all the information guys its been most helpful. Thats my next week of annual leave planned for to rip out bathroom and install units, wc shower, etc. I enjoy DIY and learning as I go but at 55 not the aches and pains the body tells me that your getting on after doing the said DIY. LOL
Couple of thoughts. If you are in a hard water area, perhaps don't get one of those complex shower mixer jet things - you'll possibly regret it - Brothers got one and in 3 years everything has siezed up because of his very hard water. Do buy the best quality mixer you can afford - the reliability of the thermostatic control will likely be better, and lastly, the shower head can make all the difference. Fitted a couple of Grohe mixer bars and swap the grohe head for a triton one because the slightly smaller size gives a slightly stronger jet which we prefer.

I never followed my own advice. I fitted a thermostatic shower to work alongside my combination boiler.
Thermostatic showers would be my choice all day and for every day of the year. Year in year out. For eternity.
They are by far better showers, than electric.
When I created a new showerroom in my home I did then fit and electric shower. But I was tempted to fit another powerful thermostatic shower.
Electric showers are not the prettiest and spent alot on the shower room so I had to compromise, on an electric shower that wasn't even the best performing electric shower.
