I'm looking at a standard bar mixer thermostatic shower. I'd like to remove the thermostatic cartridge.

Its hot supply seems to have an isolation valve but the cold doesn't.

Question: when the bar's on/off control is OFF, is it possible to unscrew the thermostatic cartridge? I.e. which of the values is upstream?

My guess is no, but I thought I'd ask as it would save me some work!

The thermostatic one should be upstream from the on/off. Do you feel lucky...

If it's upstream of the on/off, then I definitely can't unscrew it....

(I have now found a valve for the cold, but it will involve some filthy crawling under the loft tank to reach it....)

Sorry, wrong word, I meant downstream, it should go through the on/off first...

Thanks!

I'm considering taking it out to soak in vinegar / citric acid, or something. It's a very hard water area, everything seems caked in limescale.
