Shower leaking from tube at base of shower unit?

I have recently changed the shower head and the shower has been working for a few weeks. But now the water doesnt come down the pipe to the shower head it comes out of the tube that sits next this pipe?
i cant see what the purpose of this tube is?

it has a secure clip that it fits into so look as though its meant to be seated there but water just pours out of it on to the floor?

Sounds like the pressure relief device has gone-you need to contact your shower manufacturer to get a new one--if your shower hose gets kinked or twisted it can cause this to happen.
