Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this. We have a shower with a mixer tap. Picturerd here with the temperature dial unscrewed and inserted.

First a photo of the unit and a (very bad) cross section drawing - apologies I did engineering drawing at O level some 25 years ago and am very rusty!

So the way it all fits together is that (as far as I can tell) the tap (in grey in the diagram) fits over the star shaped bush and is held in place by the screw.

The problem is that over the last few days the water coming out of the shower is only luke warm at its hottest. Also, when you turn the tap to 'hot' the water actually gets colder (there is a definite increase in water flow). We've had the shower for about 4 years.

does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? I've received various 'down the pub' answers like it might be limescale, spend ten minutes turning the tap from full hot to full cold and the limescale will break away (tried that and it didn't make any difference).

I've also been told that you can regulate the 'range' of hot and cold by taking out the screw and then turning the bush using the tap alone until you are happy with the temperature and then putting the screw back in. (doesn't seem to make any difference).

If it's a broken part that needs replacing, can anyone identify what the the part might be and whether it's a professional job to replace it? (I'm not a plumber).

Many thanks in advance!
