Every 6 months or so my shower begins to drain slowly. Now and again a standard chemical will keep it flowing but this time the chemicals haven’t really helped and may actually have made it worse.

I would prefer to us a drain snake / rod spring type thing. What I don’t’ understand is how to access the pipe to get some force down there..

The waste is a standard shower trap. When I take the top off and remove the hair catcher, it’s all fixed in – I can’t remove anything . It’s probably silicone in isn’t it? In which case, if I remove it I wont be able to put it back properly… (I tried once before and could prize it out but couldn’t get it back without a tool – or at least that’s what the plumber told me

Am I missing something or are my options either chemicals or call a plumber?

Try one of these from Screwfix - best few quid I've ever spent in there!

Be very careful if there's any chance of remnants of chemical left in there, that stuff doesn't take any prisoners. At best it can burn your skin, at worst, it's your last pair of eyes... If engaging anyone else to look at it please warn them you have used chemicals.
