Shower tray and sealing

Hello.

I’m installing a shower tray and was to do it properly (obviously).

I have an 18mm shuttering ply floor and am planning on laying a weak mortar base 5:1 or 4:1 cement. My question is how much mortar and how to make sure there is no air bubbles to easily crack the tray.

Secondly, how to seal around it properly? I’ve seen people just sealing the gap with silicone, but i’ve also seen trims people put then silicone.

If you haven't bought it, I'd recommend a shower tray with built in upstands, buy a good quality one - here is not the place to save fifty quid. I laid my tray on silicone but everything was millimeter perfect - no big voids or gaps to fill. Tile adhesive is probably a better bet than sand/cement

why are shower trays so prone to cracking? and why are ones with upstands better?

Shower trays aren’t prone to cracking, the upstand allows better sealing .
