Shower won't run cold

Hello

I had a new shower installed approx 2 years ago. From installation I have not been able to run cold water through it even on the coldest setting. Fortunately the coldest setting is not too hot to shower) Is there a way to fix this?? I need to be able to take cooler showers during summertime and after running!!

Most people are not as macho as you!

I suspect the makers intentionally only allow a range of warm-hot because thats what the market wants.

You could fit a valve in the hot supply to lower or turn off the flow of hot water!

Most thermostatic showers and even a lot of manual showers need to be correctly calibrated so that the Hot and cold water temperature is suitable for the user, in fact, a thermostatic shower should be set up so that the temperature listed on the knob corresponds to the actual water temperature.

I have no idea what shower valve you have but in most cases the hot temp can be adjusted simply by unscrewing the knob and re fitting in a different orientation

Thank you both for your replies. I have no idea what shower valve I have either!! I will go home tonight and investigate and hopefully get to the bottom of it. My DIY phobic father is visiting at the weekend so I will enlist him and then probably have to call in an expert!! As you can probably tell I am a plumbing novice!

Post a photo of the shower.

There could be an incredibly simple solution here and you could put it down to Laziness of the installer. These Showers should always be properly commisioned before passing over the bathroom to the client.......and no I don't mean testing the shower naked with you watching

Thanks - I'll get the camera out tonight and get snapping. For reference the shower is powered from the mains not electric

i agree with bathstyle,

some shower valves will only turn 270 degrees from say 7 o clock on the dial anticlockwise through to about 3 o clock. However the spindle underneath will turn a full 360 degrees.

if the installer has put the controller on full tilt the wrong way then youll never have cold water.

This is just some made up rubbish.

You could fit a valve in the hot supply to lower or turn off the flow of hot water!

There's already a valve in the hot supply - it's the shower mixer.

We had a similar problem - and it was exactly as described by SUPERPLUMBER. The contol was hard round to cold but I took the cover off and the spindle still had some way to go. Just a case of "re-aligninment"

Thanks all for further comments - sounds like I have the issue you are all mentioning. The question is am I capable of fixing it!! I have attached a pic as suggested by bathstyle. Any tips on how I go about investigating??

Unclip Grohe cover on temperature knob, then remove screw, then pull off complete temp knob and put knob back on slightly more anti clockwise onto spline.

Could be clockwise, depends on orientation of Hot to cold.

Then test shower before putting screw and cover back on, play around with it to get the right balance
