I use very sharp chisels and the long stanley snap off blades to remove as much as possible. I then apply "silicone remover" by Dow Cornings. I leave it over night and go back to the chisels and knives again, plus webrax . Then the area has to be washed down with meths to remove the remover.

It can take half a day to clean a bathroom, for eg, depending on how badly it was done before.

Be warned that may brands of silicone are rubbish- in time they fail and when cleaning you find that the edges tear.

Dow Corning's sanitary silicone might cost more but it is well behaved.

Also stick your finger in a dilute of washing up liquid when smoothing off the new silicone, stops it sticking to your finger.

good tips there! iv got to get stuck into some of this the morra!
