Silicone when putting taps on bath

Hey, do people tend to put a small smear of silicone around bath taps ( just around the rubber) When putting them on a bath. As a belt and braces approach to make sure water doesn't leak between the bath an the taps, especially if there is a shower above the bath.
 
If there is a shower above the bath tap I would always apply a small amount of silicon for peace of mind.
