Quick question. A lot of new build houses from about 1990 to 2005 at a guess which I work in round my local area have all the copper pipework around the boiler and cylinder painted silver.

What is the reason for this as I can not work any advantage to this at all!

Lots of House Builders started doing this after WW2 & it's normally Battleship Grey Mat paint that's used & it was supposed to be like a ship's boiler room. Mat Black paint is used on the cylinder base also, this makes the cupboard look bigger.

Most pipes in cylinder cupboards are now insulated, so painting pipes is less common.

Mates Barrot box flat has this too, soldering is neat as, to they are not doing it to cover up ****. Looks dead smart, but I also cants see any other gain. I guess it it sells houses....

As per the OP, its a mat silver paint, rather than the older battleship grey.

Easy mate, you paint the pipes to help stop leaks..

Tickles me when someone takes the earth bonding strap off, paints the pipe beautifully then puts it back on...
