hi - so I'm refurbishing the bedroom and have an idea for a couple of very simple night lights that would be plugged in. The design would essentially be 2 bits of wood, with a fabric covered cable strung from one to the other through a hole...

Problem is I have no idea where to start, buying the materials is ok but I have no hardware. The design would call for the use of a fine saw, a ban saw. I don't want to invest in machinery for a small project so I'm wondering if there's anywhere a person can go to use this sort of kit? (That isn't trying to sneak back into my woodworking class at school!!).

I was gonna say.... "College? " lol

But no, really, try speaking to a teacher who teaches woodwork at your local college, and maybe they'll let the students loose on your project?

If it really is just "two bits of wood" then a hand saw will do just fine. You really don't need power tools or machinery for small one off jobs.
I sometimes wonder how much has been bought for a particular job and then gets left in a shed.

If you're lucky you might find a local-ish Makerspace / Hackerspace. Then tend to be more into electronics and things like 3D printing, but you might find some woodworking tools.
