My kitchen has a conservatory attached. Between the two the window in the kitchen was removed years ago but now I wish to put something back. The opening is say 5ft x 3 1/2ft but the window will only be about 1meter square & the other part will be a few shelves.
I’ve made a 3 x 2 frame then added to it some batten. My plan is to measure the opening then minus say 6mm from the measurements. I will then have some 4mm glass ordered.

Now should I lightly paint this wood before the glass is fitted or after ?

Once the glass is here I plan to use a small amount a clear silicone around the inside edge on the batten. Two screws in the bottom piece to keep it up off the 3 x 2 wood. Place the wood into the frame & sitting up in the two screws & two battens then either side just to allow the silicone to set for a day.
Next day remove these two battens & replace with the finished wood, also includes removing the two screws. This then will have a small gap around the glass from heat expansion etc.
Run a small amount of the clear silicone around where glass meets the batten wood.

FYI this window is about 10ft from conservatory windows should you need to know.

The kitchen / conservatory goes to rear garden & sun is at front of property so sun heat isn’t directly on the glass.

Does this sound correct.
Thanks.
