I have a built in Zanussi Single Fan Oven which is rated at around 2 KW max power. So at 240V this should pull under 10A (P=I*V)

It says in the booklet you can use a socket and 13A fuse, with 2.5mm wire.

So I've bought some 2.5mm twin and earth cable which I was going to wire into a standard plug and connect to a standard wall socket with a 13A fuse.

My kitchen hasn't been wired specially and doesn't have a cooker plate with red switch.

Is this safe and corect - and is it right to use the twin/earth cable?

I have a gas hob so I'm not pulling any more power than this.

Thanks,

Jules

You shouldn't be using twin and earth to wire into a plug.

This is the sort of cable you need - rated at 16 Amps and heat resistant.

You can plug it into the ring main but bear in mind that if you have your washing machine on (heating water), oven on and want to boil the kettle while doing a slice of toast you'll probably trip the breaker!

Seriously, you'll probably be quite OK but only do this if you feel competent to do so.

Thanks for the reply!

I've just bought some standard 13A mains cable from Maplins - will that be heat resistant enough?

Cheers,

Julian

Don't know, what does it say?

I would use heat resistant (not just straight pvc) just because it is likely to be in a warm space. However if in doubt you could always contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend. Mind you if they've already said 2.5mm and a 13A plug I wouldn't have much faith in them!
