sink waste

i have a basin with a waste. it has a rubber seal for below basin but nothing for the inside of basin, should i use silicon here or not?

simply put silicone between basin and the waste let it dry for few hours
and should give a perfect seal.

hmmmm, new on me. never done it that way. i use plumbers mate. if i did use silicone i'd fit it straight away

Trad material is P-M. It'll do at a pinch, horrible muck. I'd prefer silicone, but wouldn't wait particularly.

i have used plumb mate but for some reason it always leaked.
since i started using silicone -perfect seal everytime.
