The water will expand by 4%, which is 40 litres. Assuming five litres in the tank when the water is cold, it will expand to 45 litres. Assuming the level is then about half way up the tank, so the water does not escape out of the overflow, you will need a 100 litre tank.

What would be the weight of 90 litre of water in a loft? Guess that's serious reinforcement/ space?

But you will only have 45 litres in the tank. You install a larger tank just for safety.

45 Litres = 45kg = 100lbs = approx 7 stone

If installing a tank theoretically capable of containing 100 Litres, then the bearers MUST be capable of taking the FULL WEIGHT!! - regardless of how likely (or not) the tank is to fill to the brim! - common sense one would have thought!
