Skimming cement board

I'm building a fake chinney breast around my new log burner, mostly plasterboard and wood, but using metal stud and cement board for the area immediately around the stove.

Is there anything in particular I should do before skimming the cement board above the fire, or do to the joins where cement meets plaster?

Cheers!
