Apologies to all if this is a duplicate but I've searched through everything and can't find the answer.
I have an old house with lath and plaster walls. The plaster is fairly sound but the walls are a bit of a mess (holes and cracks and gouges etc). I've tried to patch it and it's looking ok but not great. Ideally I'd like to just skim the whole lot. Some of the walls were so bad that I ripped them down and put up new plasterboard. This was so messy I'd rather not do it again if I can avoid it!
Question is, do I need to use a specialist plaster over the original lath and plaster walls? Someone mentioned once that the old plaster is porous and so you can't use normal plaster and it's actually a specialist plaster job.
What sort of plaster should I use?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
