Our stairs walls and ceiling were artexed when we moved in and the ceiling was also false (half height) so we took the ceiling down to open it up.
We were originally going to have the artex skimmed over but because we’ve opened it up - the top half isn’t artexed so the walls are completely different levels so we decided to strip all the artex off after we had it tested to ensure it didn’t contain asbestos.
Not sure if this was the right decision now as the artex has ripped off some of the plaster underneath and basically the walls are all over the place - nevertheless we’re going to get them skimmed once I’ve overboarded the ceiling and got the last of the wallpaper down.
1. Can these areas of dark grey be skimmed over directly or should I fill them out a bit with some bonding plaster before hand? I need to mix some up anyway as there are some deeper holes that need filling.
2. do I need to remove this wallpaper fully ready for skimming or can this just be skimmed over? It’s very old and almost infused with the wall so getting it off is proving very difficult (along with the height of the ceiling!!)
3. Some of the artex hasn’t fully scraped off leaving some smooth artex underneath - can this be skimmed over or should I be getting it all off properly?
cheers
