I've plastered a few walls over floating coats which I have been chuffed with, but I have never skimmed a wall over existing plaster. I imagine that this is a relatively simple job but does anyone know if you need to coat the wall with anything and what type of plaster to use? I was going to go ahead with a thin coat of gypsum finishing plaster, but I thought I beter check first. Most of my walls had bare plaster under the paper but a couple were painted. Does this make any difference?

Again - Help will be appreciated. I've completed quite a few jobs that I thought were beyond my capabilities thanks to the help I have received from everyone in this forum and it is helping to keep the costs of doing up my flat to a minimum.
