Stripped the skirting off in the bedroom in order to completely revamp it. However i want to keep the existing carpet. The new skirting is higher and thicker than the old therefore will sit over the carpet.

Is this ok or will it look totally silly?
Any problems if a new carpet was ever to go in?

Thanks

the skirting job is to protect the bottom off the wall and seal the gap
if you remove the carpet you have a gap
can you not peel the carpet the few mm nescisary to drop the skirting down ?

Roll up the carpet, fit new skirtings and paint right to the base, leave for 7 days to thoroughly dry then get a carpet fitter in to trim and refit your carpet. It won't cost much, and will make for a much nicer result!

Just a thought but if you do fit your skirting to the carpet, just think how easy it would be to hide any cables. Pull back the carpet lay your cables under the skirting then carpet back down.

if you have carpet grippers laying the skirting on the carpet will probably lock the carpet in place :?: :?:
