Pulled the carpet up to replace skirting. The new skirting is thicker than the old therefore the carpet does not quite fit back.. Can a carpet fitter trim a small amount off the carpet all around and refit or is this too small to trim.
Thanks

My old man was a carpet fitter and had a pair of shears for trimming carpets he would have had no trouble. I guess it depends on whether he is a proper carper fitter of just a guy with a stanley knife and a stretcher :D
As said ask around.

Probably yes, but it depends on the carpet to a degree. If it's a berber carpet (loop pile) there's always a risk of causing a run when cutting so the fitter might not want to do it or charge more money.

But I'm an amateur and wouldn't balk at taking off 5mm with a good knife and sharp blades.
When you get down to 1mm then you start having fun - out with the hook blades and be careful with your fingers lest you want to only be able to count to nine and three quarters :D
