The sky engineer will get the cable there as quickly and easily as he can - he is paid a fixed price per install.

You do need a phone line connected to ALL boxes on a multiroom contract. The reason?

A multiroom card gives you all the channels of your main contract. You *could* take this card and use it in another house, recieving the £50 worth of channels for a tenner.

To prevent this, Sky force the sky boxes to authenticate every so often with their servers, using the phone line to do so, and using caller ID to check that all the boxes with the cards in are on the same phoneline.

There have been cases where neighbours "share" cards with multiroom and also "share" their phonelines as required to combat the checking.

When a box becomes disconnected from the phone line, it does seem to take some weeks before you recieve a call from Sky.

And if you do not keep it connected then Sky will suddenly inform you that they are increasing the cost of your multiroom to the full price.

Although you can suggest that he does not install the cable (fix it to the walls) just run it where it needs to go (and they will usually give you plenty of spare) and you can say that you will re routeit under the floorboards later. Then just plug it in every month and get it to communicate.
