Hi,

Looking at using Brazilian black slate floor tiles laid over paving stones to make a hearth for the fireplace, but the edges have saw marks.

Can the edges of slate tiles be filed or polished to remove the saw marks?

Cheers

Liam

they can be polished, but if ya tiling over flags you may have to cut the tiles to fit anyway, so cutting them would remove the saw marks anyway mate

The best way to remove saw marks is to use a good radial arm saw, my rubi 200 seems to do the job nicely but a flex polisher should be used to get a perfect edge

I've just laid brazillian black slate (classical flagstones) and removed the saw marks with wet and dry paper to get a perfect smooth black edge!
