Sliding doors - will they make opening larger?

I would like to have three internal doors into bath/bedrooms in close proximity to each other, ideally forming three sides of a square, where each side is only the width if one door.
Trouble is, moving furniture from the landing, which forms the fourth side. How much room should I leave between the two doors opposite each other, to manoeuvre bulky sex aids etc? Would sliding doors solve my dilemma?
