Hello, I'm looking for some advice and hoping if someone can help.

I'm in the process of fitting my kitchen its a handless j pull style and need to order my worktops ASAP.

Originally we was going to go with 30mm quartz but we cant get it fitted before Christmas and it is quite expensive.

Im looking at solid surface worktops that are 20mm thick however the reduced thickness will not work with our induction hob and cutlery draw underneath (Everything fits perfect if the worktop is 30mm). If I was to fit a 12mm marine ply to the top of the worktop set back 20mm from the front of the front edge or the carcass then the worktop would overhang the carcass by around 30mm would this gap be noticeable or I could add an 12mm LED profile in the gap to cover it up?

Im not sure if the LED's are even a good idea as the light would be facing out and not down and might cause some glare.

Any advice or if you have done anything similar would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

What about 10mm acrylic (no chance of any deterioration whatsoever then) and with a bevelled edge to further reduce it being visible? Or just do the right thing and fit an appropriate worktop.
