click on the Startup tab on the top of the window and see how many startup programs are ticked, you might be suprised at how much loads that isnt required at startup and this could be a factor?

Well, I have finally given up and just reformatted the hard-drive. The startup now takes about 30seconds or less compared to the 5min previously!!!!!!!

Bit late now you've taken the drastic step of a reformat but in case you have the same problem again, I have an acer laptop and was wondering why mine was going slower than usual, in my case it was as simple as the laptop was on acer energy saving and the processor was not running at max performance, the setting had changed (little icon on sys tray battery or plug) right clicked and put back profile setting when plugged in, back to max performance and zoooom!

Not suggesting you did or anything, but my mate had the same problem because he looked at too many porn sites and had so much spyware crap on his PC.
