Slurry for damp wall?

Hi,

My kitchen wall is damp because the neighbouring garden is well above the dpc (approx 4 ft). We live on a slight slope and there is no way the neighbour is going to dig a trench to stop water penetrating our wall.

My builder seems to think that applying slurry to the wall will stop it getting damp. We are having a lot of work done to the room so now is the time to sort the problem out. Is slurry the best solution?

Any help would be most appreciated!!

Is it single brick/block or a cavity wall?
