Hi,

Noticed a small (approx 2 inch’ patch of damp wall adjacent to the bottom right corner of our bay window. Room is recently replastered (dot/ dab), window was the existing one.

We have had very heavy winds/ rain last night, so expect that was the cause. Does this tend to be due to defective silicone?

Thanks

We had the same problem when we had new plastering done it was due to no silicone between the bottom edge of the frames and the window sill. Our windows were under guarantee at the time so both the windows were refitted properly. We have since removed the plastic edging strips the installers use to tidy up the install on a bay window prior to more plastering and found the brick wet so got a sealant gun and rammed it in along the edge of the frame and sill and have had no further problems. If this is your problem it is easily sorted.

Yeh I reckoned it might be something like this, did you seal again from the inside or outside or both?

Cheers

Thanks. I’ve chipped away a small amount of plaster and board so I could get to the end and see the joint between the sill and frame. Didn’t feel damp but I’ve packed loads of silicone in.

Now to wait for the next storm to see how it holds up.

Cheers
