I've cleared my garden and re-used some flags to create a base for a small, 2460mm x 1830mm, decked area. Do I need to raise the bearers off the flags, or would I get away with sitting them directly on the flags? (Which was my intention.)

If I do rest them directly on the flags, with the construction being relatively small in size and therefore weight, should I secure the bearers to the concrete flags to prevent movement? Or do you think the weight will be sufficient to keep it in place?

Do you have wall on one side of the site? If so secure a length of your joist timber to it and build from that.

Turned soil, removing large rocks, clay, weeds and roots. Levelled. Sand on top. Levelled. Flags applied.

This is the area.

I'm going to continue with the construction and 'suck-it-and-see'.
