During a recent DIY project i managed to cut through a water pipe in an upstairs bedroom. I Cut out the damaged section and replaced it with a new peice of pipe. Everything seemed fine, until i noticed that the boiler started to make banging sounds and kept on cutting out. also there was water flowing out of the overflow pipe? outside the house.

Can anyone tell me what has happened, i dont really know anything about heating systems so any help would be great

thanks.

What sort of boiler is it ?
Did you re-open all of the valves underneath after the repair?
What is the pressure in the system?

it's a potterton boiler and when i cut the pipe i just turned off all of the valves in the loft until the water stopped. i opened them all up again when i done the repair. as for the pressure im not so sure.

Potterton what? The more info you can give about the boiler and system the better
I am gleaning that it is a conventional boiler and not a combi as I first suspected.
Ok my number one suspect right now is that the ballvalve in the small tank in your loft is stuck or otherwise held in the down position so that the water is not shutting off.
Can you check that out and post back?
