Smell from kitchen sink pipe

Morning,

I'm in the middle of a kitchen refit and noticed a bit of a smell coming from where the sink waste passes through the floor.

Am I best just to peel the foil back and fill any gaps with plumbers putty, then reseal?

All and any suggestions welcome.

No idea Wayners, was how the house was built. I'd appreciate any help in doing it properly.

Yes - get rid of the foil and let's see what's there - that's just a bodge by someone trying to fix an issue.

With the correct fittings ( ideally not putty) it should be able to be sorted out. The drains may need a clean/jet out too, if it's that bad.
