Newbie here.

Every time I use the washing machine the smell of drains comes through the sink plughole, I've cleaned the filter and the tray where I put the washing powder but it still smells.

Anyone out there who might know what the problem is. It's only when I use the washing machine.

Thanks

Could be that you are losing trap seal every time the washer drains.

Does the washer have its own stand pipe or does it share it with the sink :?:

Changing to an anti vac trap will solve if they are shared. :D

the trap is shared with the sink and the dishwasher.

What is an anti vac trap and do you know how I change it

You could try a trap that doesn't rely on a water seal, such as the Hep vo trap. That way you dont have to worry about the length of any pipe runs and there is no chance of losing the water..because there isn't any. Therefore no chance of the smell coming back up.
