smelly laundry in tumble dryer

oh dear dear...
I left my out-of-the-washing-machine bed sheets in my tumble dryer, but forgot to switch it on. That was one night. Now it's very very smelly. I am taking the bedsheets out and rewashing them.
But what should I do with my tumble dryer?

dry it.
stop putting smelly sheets in it.

It's unusual for a drier to get smelly after just one night.

And why on earth are you not taking advantage of this wonderful weather & drying them naturally instead of using an expensive drier?

I live in an apartment, so weather's no use. Although I do hang and dry some of my more....better t-shirts.

I've since switched on the dryer for 30mins, and most of the smell is gone.
